Ending the Year with Gratitude
This year, Feed Iowa First distributed 30,677 pounds of fresh, nutritious food in Linn County through our Veggie Van program and partnerships with local organizations. Direct Veggie Van distributions reached 1,550 people, while food shared through partner sites helped support approximately 59,000 community members overall. These partnerships allow fresh food to reach neighbors through trusted, community-based channels and extend the impact of our work beyond any single program.
In addition, our Equitable Land Access program supported three emerging farm businesses at Wanatee Farm and helped 33 community gardeners access urban land to grow food. Through this program, we continue to connect underserved farmers and gardeners with land and resources to grow sustainable, culturally-relevant food.
Rising food insecurity has continued to strain families in Linn County, and many face limitations within federal nutrition programs like SNAP, where benefits often fall short of covering fresh, healthy food. Feed Iowa First supports neighbors by helping fill these gaps through food access programs and strong community partnerships.
We are grateful for the collective effort of donors, volunteers, farmers, and partners who made this work possible. While there is still significant work ahead to address food insecurity and inequities in our food system, we remain focused on strengthening partnerships, supporting local growers, and expanding access to nutritious food throughout Linn County.
Our staff will be taking a well-deserved break from December 24, 2025 to Janurary 1, 2026. We look forward to reconnecting in the coming year and continuing this work together.
