Join us for Feed Iowa First’s First’s Field Day at the New Wanatee Farm Equitable Land Access Project site.
Learn about land access and local food production in Linn County
Meet ELA farmers and discover culturally relevant vegetables
Discover organic growing techniques and ask questions about vegetable production and small-scale farming.
Schedule:
7:30-11:00 – Open to the public
7:30 am – Project and Policy Tour – Emmaly Renshaw, Executive Director
9:00 – NRCS Rainfall Simulator & Urban Ag. Opportunities – Levi, Marion Field Office
9:30: Attracting and Caring for Beneficial Insects for your Garden – Mari Hunt Wassink, ELA Farmer
10:00 -11:00 Restaurant Owner and Managers Field Tour – Kit Kirby, Program Director
11:30 – Wholesale Boxing Class – Field to Family with Emily Roberts @ Linn County Public Health Building (open to any emerging farmer)

Professional field morning, fun evening!

Ladies Night at the Farm

Friday September 8th – Saturday September 9th 4:30pm-9:30am

Cost: Recommend donation of $25

Feed Iowa First’s WTF (Women/Trans/Femme) Night at the Farm!  The farming season is long and the Women at Feed are excited to gather for a fun night of learning and laughter. There will be mini-classes, speakers, and friendships. Come for the evening events or stay the night. Recommended donation of $25.00.
Friday’s Schedule
  • 4:30 Gates Open
  • 5:00-6:30 Mini Classes:
    • 1st Class – Drive It Like a Boss – Tractor Operation & 3-Point Attachment 101
      • Never driven a tractor? This is your chance!  Learn about tractor basics, maintenance, bucket control, and how to hook up 3pt attachments.  This is a hands-on class!
    • 2nd Class-  Food is Everywhere!
      • Join Hai to learn about how edible plants are growing on the land! Join the Food is Everywhere class for a fun, engaging, and friendly pace walk where you will learn to identify wild edibles and their usage. With the abundance of gifts from the land, don’t be surprised if our dinner gets beefed up with things we forage.
  • 6:30 – 8:00 BYO Dinner (If you order pizza from Casey’s down the road we won’t judge).
  • 8:00 – Speaker Kent Rector from Linn County Conservation “Local Water Quality Initiatives in Linn County 

Saturday’s Schedule

  • 7 am: Sunrise Yoga in the field with Kit Kirby (bring a mat or towel)
  • 8:00 Light breakfast provided by Feed Iowa First
  • 9:30 End of Campout
