On Wednesday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m., Feed Iowa First hosted our first-ever Bus Tour. Participants traveled from the shop to Feed Iowa First’s urban farm at River of Life Church, which is growing peas and sweet potatoes. The bus stopped at Olivet Mission next, where Julie discussed what food insecurity truly looks like in our community. (It doesn’t fit the stereotypes!) We hopped off at Wellington House next, where Tommi Karma described the garden that serves the Wellington Heights neighborhood and their collaboration with Feed Iowa First. The evening was concluded with refreshments and a tour of the shop where seedlings are flourishing.

The Bus Tour group poses next to the Neighborhood Transportation Services (NTS) buses that Horizons: A Family Service Alliance kindly lent for the event.

The group listens as Julie from Olivet Neighborhood Mission speaks about food insecurity in our community.
