Feed Iowa First (FIF) is a community-driven initiative comprising businesses, faith organizations, schools, farmers, and volunteers working collaboratively to address food insecurity by promoting food and farmer growth. As FIF expands, we are seeking a Food Access Coordinator to coordinate our Community Produce Distribution program. The goal is to create a safe, efficient, and inclusive environment that removes barriers and increases access to fresh and nutritious food to all community members 

Food Access Coordinator Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee Veggie Van stops, produce deliveries, and coordinate VeggieRx with health clinics. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with underserved clients and distribution partners. 
  • Evaluate and optimize infrastructure and processes for efficient food distribution. 
  • Identify gaps in underserved communities with limited access to nutritious or culturally relevant food. 
  • Attend and participate in community events to connect with individuals and organizations. 
  • Implement GAP certification protocols for field, produce handling, and distribution. 
  • Train and assist volunteers in the shop, ensuring adherence to best food safety practices. 
  • Develop a distribution model and schedule tailored to the needs of the clients served. 


  • Experience in community outreach, policy, food insecurity, and food safety is a plus. 
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a community-based setting 
  • Ability to work with a diverse community with many language barriers 
  • Knowledge of agricultural practices and food systems 
  • Valid Drivers License  


Work Schedule 

  • Average 30 hours a week  
  • Flexible schedule on the off-season 
  • Flexibility for students to balance school and work


  • This is an Americorps Position 
  • Yearly Stipend: $22,819
  • End of service education award – Changes with the amount of a Pell Grant: Currently $7,395 OR $1,800 cash (this is taxed) upon completion of a year term.

Member Outcomes: Upon leaving this position after a year of service members can expect to gain the following skills.

  • Gain oral communication and public speaking skills 
  • Have experience in data tracking  
  • Experience in GAP (Good Ag. Practices) and Food Safety Standards
